1977 Movie Review
Story:
A racy tale, the story begins on the backdrop of a small village in Tamilnadu and this has Rajashekar (Sarath) who is more like a god to all the villagers. He does noble deeds and wins the goodwill of the people. Even his son Vetrivel (Sarath) is a noted scientist who has won accolades from government and made his village folks proud. Life goes smoothly but one day Rajashekar sees a news report in TV on a particular issue that took place in Malaysia and much to everyone’s dismay gets a heart attack and dies. Shocked by this, Vetrivel begins to figure out the cause for this, he decides to go to Malaysia and there he takes the help of the local news reporter Inba (Farzana). Inba falls for Vetrivel instantly and also helps him in his search, at the same time he also takes the help of Chandini (Namitha) who is the daughter of a former Public Prosecutor. In this, Vetrivel discovers that his father was actually a cop in Malaysia and he gets framed wrongly in a case and also loses his family, that’s what gets him to Tamilnadu. How does Vetrivel resolve the issues and bring the baddies to justice forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has come up with a racy storyline and though he has worked well on the presentation, the narrative could have been better. The dialogues were alright, the script was written with few interesting twists, screenplay was okay. Music was suiting the environment and few numbers were good. Cinematography captured the angles and locations perfectly. Editing could have been crisper and it would have helped the movie. Sarath Kumar came up with a very good performance and he shouldered the film very well, Namitha did her job perfectly and oozed out the oomph and glamour in a very big way. Farzana was apt to her role and fitted the bill, Jayasudha was natural, Radha Ravi was effective, Vivek could not generate the laughs this time. The others did their bit.
Conclusion:
The film has been more of a stylish and slick presentation and though the content was lacking depth and flavor, the screenplay did its bit to keep things going. While the first half was all about the melodrama and sentiment, the second half took the action mode and there is enough glamour to keep the mass audience entertained. The film has got the right kind of commercial elements but it could have been a lot better if the quality and the content was worked on. The film will turn out to be a decent profit maker at the box office.
